On the bottom of a pure satin virgin wool hanging seductively, Magnolia carries a tone-on-tone embroidery in thick bouclé thread, and in wool. The material becomes design, from a research that is in harmony with the visual world and the artistic interests of pre-war Europe, of which J-M Frank's interiors are among the exemplary references. But suggestions emerge from an even earlier period, in which a figurative Mondrian painted his woods. On the qualities of Buonfresco's draper—the Dedar fabric that forms the base—Magnolin embroiders its version of the spirit of the arts and crafts: a substantial and deliberately “grossière” reading.
