Dedar frames Studio Ossidiana's "Massi Erratici" project
The Italian design duo Studio Ossidiana transforms the entrance of the Galleria D'Arte Moderna e Contemporanea in Bergamo with a dynamic and flexible installation made of recycled stones and materials.
The "Massi Erratici” project reconfigures the museum's access spaces through modular surfaces and volumes conceived as independent fragments, which can be moved and combined in ever new arrangements, introducing an element of play and accommodating multiple museum initiatives.
“We imagined a collection to organise a series of museum-related activities: from bookshop spaces, vernissages and open-air exhibitions, from editorial meetings of the museum's magazine to the display of works from the museum's collection,’ say designers Alessandra Covini and Giovanni Bellotti.
Solid modules are accompanied by light curtains, in an interplay of alternating weights and tactility. In the design the fabric creates new configurations, light separations or scenographies.
“These ‘Erratic Boulders’ are framed by semi-transparent emerald curtains, Dedar's Volare fabric, defining an entrance apse, backdrops for works of art, and opening onto a bookcase, displaying different books each time. The room contours are redefined by textile surfaces and curtains become the backdrop for artificial stones. According to the theories of Gottfried Semper and Adolf Loos, textiles and carpets are the first form of architecture, whose decorations were then engraved and coloured into durable materials such as stone.”
