Villa Borsani, Varedo

Built to a project by architect and entrepreneur Osvaldo Borsani between 1943 and 1945, Villa Borsani offers a complex vision of stylistic synthesis and presents a modern rationalist style that reinterprets the art deco language in a contemporary key. Surrounded by a large garden, the two floors of the villa are characterized by pared-down volumes and luminous interior spaces. Here, the Dedar collection explores more than ever the relationship between graphic expression and textile art. Yarns of fascinating irregularity in vivid and saturated colours create lavish weaves of creative experimentation. Soft textural surfaces, such as bouclé wools, chenilles and velvets are flanked by more modern and functional fabrics. The villa houses modern furniture pieces designed by Osvaldo Borsani himself as well as contemporary artworks by Lucio Fontana, Adriano Spilimbergo and Agenore Fabbri. In his various projects, Borsani often engaged artists of the ilk of Gio Ponti, Arnaldo Pomodoro, Bruno Munari, Ugo Mulas and Fausto Melotti, assigning them the task of designing unique elements such as door handles, friezes, stands or ceramic tiles for the decoration of fireplaces. The design solutions, atmosphere and family history of Villa Borsani form an ideal connective thread with Villa Necchi Campiglio and make it one of the most renowned Milanese residences. | Photo credit: Andrea Ferrari
